About Diablo (1996) — WebAssembly Action RPG

Locked 60 FPSZero Install

Descend into the labyrinth beneath the Cathedral of Tristram. Powered by the DevilutionX WebAssembly engine, play Diablo 1 directly in your browser with shareware demo mode included and full MPQ save support.

Beneath the cursed town of Tristram lies a labyrinth crawling with demons, undead, and the Lord of Terror himself. Released by Blizzard North in 1996, Diablo established the modern action-RPG formula with real-time isometric combat, randomized loot drops, eerie atmospheric sound design, and deep dungeon crawling. This web edition runs via DevilutionX compiled to WebAssembly, giving you full access to the Warrior, Rogue, and Sorcerer classes, classic town music by Matt Uelmen, and complete client-side IndexedDB save preservation.

❓Frequently Asked Questions

Troubleshooting & Guides

💡What should I do if the game fails to load, freezes, or shows a black screen?

If a game fails to start or gets stuck during loading, it is almost always caused by an outdated or corrupted local browser cache from an earlier release. Please perform a hard refresh (Ctrl+F5 on Windows/Linux or Cmd+Shift+R on Mac) or clear your browser's cached images and files in settings, then reload. Also ensure WebGL 2.0 and hardware acceleration are enabled in your browser settings.

Can I play the full Diablo 1 game or only the demo?

The browser port starts with the shareware SPAWN.MPQ included out of the box (covering the first two dungeon levels and the Butcher boss). If you own the original game, simply drag and drop your DIABDAT.MPQ file into the game window to unlock the full 16-level campaign, Hell difficulty, and all character classes.

Where are my Diablo character saves stored?

Character progress and inventory are stored safely in your browser's IndexedDB. You can export or import your .sv save files anytime.

Which classes can I play in Diablo?

You can play as the stalwart Warrior, the agile Rogue, or the mystic Sorcerer, each possessing unique starting stats, spell affinities, and combat mechanics.
