About the Project

Real Game Engines. Compiled for the Web.

WASM Arcade is a non-profit digital cultural archive of real, full-scale video game engines compiled to WebAssembly. Not video streams, not cloud gaming servers, and not web wrappers: actual C++, Java, and Rust engine binaries running in the browser tab on your own GPU.

An Archive, Not a Store

Every game here was crafted by talented studios and creators who own them. WASM Arcade does not sell games, requires no purchases, and collects no account credentials. It keeps vintage software playable the same way a library keeps historic books readable, ensuring culture does not vanish as hardware ages and proprietary plugins disappear.

If you represent a copyright holder and wish to have a work removed, please review our Copyright and Takedown Policy. We promptly honor and respect all legitimate takedown requests without argument.

Why WebAssembly Changes Everything

For decades, running games like Grand Theft Auto or full-fledged console titles meant installers, driver compatibilities, or security risks. WebAssembly (WASM) executes compiled bytecode at near-native CPU speed inside the strict, sandboxed security boundary of any modern web browser.

🔒 Hardware Sandboxing

WASM programs cannot access your files, webcam, or operating system beyond standard browser sandbox permissions.

🚀 Zero Latency & GPU Acceleration

WebGL 2.0 and WebGPU render 3D polygons directly on your local graphics card, eliminating cloud stream compression artifacts.

Built on Open Source Giants

This archive exists only through the tireless dedication of open-source reverse-engineering and preservation teams worldwide:

  • reVC & re3Clean-room open-source reimplementations of the GTA III and Vice City engines by community developers.
  • RuffleHigh-accuracy Flash Player emulator written entirely in Rust, enabling historic SWF files to run safely.
  • EaglercraftX & TeaVMRemarkable Java bytecode-to-WebAssembly compiler toolchain bringing Minecraft 1.8.8 to modern web standards.
  • EmulatorJS & LibretroPortable browser frontends for FinalBurn Neo, mGBA, and classic arcade coin-op hardware.
